3 kW heater plug load
Can I run a 3 kW heater from a 13 amp plug?
A plain-English 3 kW heater and 13 amp plug check for UK temporary heating jobs.
Safety boundary: this guide is for early planning only. It does not inspect hidden wiring, sign off an installation or replace a competent electrician.
The maths is tight
At 230 V, a 3,000 W heater draws about 13.0 A before any other equipment is counted. That is already right on a typical UK plug/socket rating.
Why it trips or overheats setups
The load may be too close to the plug, lead, adaptor or circuit limit, especially if the heater runs for hours or shares the supply with tills, chargers, lighting, dehumidifiers or fans.
Safer planning step
If you need that amount of heat, check whether a lower-wattage heater, separate supply, 16 A supply or different heating approach is more realistic before operating.
Equipment next step: if the load plan is realistic, compare electric heaters with suitable input ratings and keep the calculation trail with your site notes.
